“A Community Kitchen for the Budding Bakers of Bourbon County, Kentucky”
Bread is life!
Hello! My name is Andrea Pompei and I am the founder/baker/owner of a small-batch incubator bakery named the Hopewell Bake Exchange, formerly known as the Lacey Bread Company. This community bakery is located in a “sky-blue” historic building on Main Street in Paris, Kentucky; a quaint and quirky rural community adjacent to Lexington.
Personally, some of my fondest memories are associated with food, family & friends while in the kitchen and around the table. Additionally, the tactile and therapeutic nature of breadmaking has allowed me to persevere through the hardest of times. What it boils down to is: When we are better connected to our food, it helps nurture the health of our body and mind.
“Breaking bread” with others is one of the best ways to strengthen the bonds of our families, friends, and local community. We can all be deliberate about the way we spend our money. By purchasing a Hopewell Bake Exchange product you are investing in the budding bakers and entrepreneurs of Bourbon County, the agricultural community of the central Kentucky region and beyond, and the Bourbon County Farmers’ Market, whose many vendors supply eggs, sorghum, honey, jam, fruits and veggies, and dairy products that end up in Hopewell Bread Exchange creations.
So, vote with your dollar and commit to bettering your community. It’ll make you feel better. I promise! #buylocalbourboncounty
About
The Hopewell Bake Exchange (formerly known as the Lacey Bread Company) was founded in 2018 as a home-based bakery. The Commonwealth of Kentucky allows home-based vendors to sell certain types of baked goods at farmer markets, community events, and through direct sales. For its first three years, Andrea baked with her trusty reliable home-oven; the Kelvinator.
Past its third anniversary in 2022, we expanded into a commercial bakery space downtown.
In 2023, you will find us peddling bread each Saturday at the Bourbon County Farmers’ Market, other community events and select local businesses. See what we are up to!
